One of the main components that makes our school agrarian, is that we will base the school’s financial stability on the production of crops and maintenance of farmland. This operational aspect is a unique aspect to Chesterton Schools and is fitting for the Willamette Valley. The Commercial Farm will operate in the same manner as an independent, profitable farming operation. We will start modestly and implement a strategic plan to grow as the School develops.
Students will participate in the Commercial Farm in intentionally planned and crafted activities. For example, students will learn the basic operations of a farm associated with each season – from planting to harvesting. Farming will be taught as an art and not a hard science. Another exciting benefit of a commercial farm is students will have the opportunity for summer employment. Careful attention will be paid to labor laws, personal safety, and safe equipment operation.
True contentment is a thing as active as agriculture. It is the power of getting out of any situation all that there is in it. It is arduous and it is rare.
